FedEx Funeral

IMG_3391

Gina snapped this picture yesterday of FedEx trucks lined up for the funeral of the San Antonio pilot that recently died in a plane crash in Japan. It's a sad story but it's great that so many FedEx people showed up to pay their respects.

Cezanne and BS

I had the "pleasure" of catching a part of "Sunday Morning" on CBS this Sunday. They had a segment on an artist named Cezanne. Apparently, he was a very influential guy.

The funniest part (it's funny if you don't think about it too much) is when the reporter talks to some present day artists that claim to have been influenced by Cezanne.

One guy painted this blue quadrilateral and said that it was "inspired" by a Cezanne piece that had either a blue lake or part of the ocean in it.

There was another "painting" that consisted of a bunch of little green rectangles and it was supposed to have been based on a painting of a pine tree by Cezanne.

Another "painting" consisted of three broad lines of color that was supposed to be a landscape.

It was hilarious. I wonder if these people realized that they had become parodies of themselves.

Here are the two paintings of the lake/ocean that I mentioned above:

Unless you are a complete dunderhead, you can easily see the second one is obviously just a stylized version of the first one. Duh!

I found the "pine tree" too:

That's just too funny. The whole charade is probably government funded to boot!

Just a bunch of no talent hacks trying to ride on a capable person's coattails.

I Apologize For Everything

I apologize for everything that I've ever done wrong in the past or will do wrong in the future or that I'm currently doing wrong.

This isn't one of those fake "Hollywood" apologizes or the apology of a politician. I really, really, really mean it.

I especially apologize for that thing I did to the guys at work that they don't know about.

The Hard Part of Being Suspicious

The hard part of being suspicious is knowing when to stop.

It's sort of exactly like the Turing machine stopping problem except all the details are different.

"Dead Horse Live Ground" by Randi Russo

Recently "Dead Horse Live Ground" by Randi Russo has become the best music in the Known Universe (tm).

You can listen to this song here.

It replaces the song to previously hold this position, "Earned Average Dance" by the Seedy Seeds (sorry Seeds).

Which One of These People is Most Likely a Cylon?

IMG_0522.JPG

Just based on appearance, which one of these four gentlemen is most likely a cylon? From left to right and for identification during voting, we'll arbitrarily call them "Cory", "Greg", "Nels", and "Pedro".

The Worst Kind of Nerd

It's a little known fact that the worst kind of nerd is a sports nerd and Joe Lunardi could be the king of all sports nerds. He's such a big nerd that even the on air personalities of ESPN give him crap.

Today is the biggest day of the year in Joe's life. It's when the 65 teams are selected for the big tournament (if you don't know what I'm talking about you live a sad life). Joe will get more airtime today on ESPN than maybe anybody else.

Somehow (probably through sports nerd wizardry) Joe has figured out how to determine what teams are selected on "Selection Sunday". Last year he got all 65 right. Some people suspect he has a mole on the inside of the selection committee.

I only have to wonder how long Joe's depression will last. It has to be a bummer to go back to your "normal" life after being a Sportscenter regular for a week.

Dave Ramsey Loves Kutiman?

There is a rumor going around the Internet that Dave Ramsey loves Kutiman. Does anybody have a reference for that?

Clippers' Column on ESPN

This is a hilarious column on the Clippers' loss to the Cavs last night:

A dumbfounding night in the 'Dumbleavy Era'

I think the best part is:

1:28: Something completely awesome happened here that they missed on the telecast. As the Cavs were bringing up the ball and everyone was screaming for the Undertaker to remove Kaman, he called for Camby, who rose off the bench with one of the single greatest faces of all time: Anger, dismay, confusion, disbelief, hostility, you name it. I have been attending games since I was 5, and I have NEVER seen a more bummed-out player enter an NBA game than Marcus Camby. Ever.

Hahahahahahahaha.

Sports is an Insane Part of Life

Here are some sort of crazy things that happened in sports this week/last night:

  1. Netherlands beats the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic twice.

The roster of the Netherlands has about $400k in MLB contracts for this year.

The Domican Republic has $83m in MLB contracts for this year.

This has to be one of the biggest upsets in the history of sports.

  2. DePaul beats Cincinnati in the Big East Tournament.

DePaul was 0-16 in Big East regular season play. How in the world did they win this game?

  3. North Dakota State made the big dance in the first year they were eligible.

There are schools that have been playing basketball for forever and haven't made the NCAA tournament.

  4. Clippers blow big lead to the Cavs.

The worst pro franchise going right now and for many years was up 69 to 52 at the start of the 4th quarter against the best team in the NBA. Somehow they got outscored 35 to 14 in the 4th quarter and blow the game. That's just how the Clippers roll. Don't try to understand it.

If you know a fan of the Clippers, give them a call today and check to make sure they are ok.

Billy Crystal, start rooting for the Kings already.

NBA Plus/Minus Stat

I just noticed tonight while looking at the box score for the Spurs/Suns game that ESPN has a player's plus/minus for the game.

So, for example, Matt Barnes was an amazing +20 for the game. That means during the 34 minutes he played, the Suns outscored the Spurs by 20.

For the Spurs, Bruce Bowen was the player with the best plus/minus for the game, +12.

I think the NBA should give out an end of year trophy for the player with the best total plus/minus for the season.

I hate to have to spend the money, but she's getting too big. We'll have to spring for something bigger soon. = (

Post Office Eats Battlestar Galactica Disc

IMG_3248

I only got the Netflix envelope. I can just imagine John E. Potter with a huge stack of "misplaced" Netflix discs.

(This kind of stuff didn't happen to me when George Bush was President!)

Incidentally, episode #4 of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica titled "Exodus: Part 2" is now one of my favorite pieces of TV.
