Lights, Camera, Disc Golf

The first set of lights for my backyard disc golf practice stadium came in today. Now, I'll be able to practice disc golf whenever I want, night will be no hindrance to me.

Disc Golf Survey

The Pro Disc Golf Association recently surveyed over 4,000 disc golfers.

Here are the sometimes shocking results of that survey.

Highlights include:
  1. 53 of the 4,000 disc golfers claimed to make over $250,000 per year.
  2. Only 8.1% of respondents said they were unemployed.
  3. The 3 most popular soft drinks among disc golfers are Coke, Dr. Pepper, and Mountain Dew. Only 16.4% said they consumed Pepsi most often.
  4. Subway won in the fast food restaurant category with a whopping 51.5% of respondents saying they have eaten there most often.
  5. In the mid-market chain restaurant category the amazing winner was Applebee's with a 28.0% response ratio.
  6. Major League Baseball was the winner in the pro sport event attendance category with 49.7% of disc golfers saying they had been to a MLB game in 2010.
  7. 331 disc golfers claim to have been playing the sport for more than 25 years.
  8. 19.0% of respondents claimed to own over 200 discs.
  9. 42% of respondents say they would pay $4 to $6 to play at a really nice pay to play disc golf course.
  10. 86.6% of those surveyed own a computer.
This survey is likely to change the course of disc golf history for years to come (no exaggeration).

Bad Disc Golf Basket Location

IMG_7039

This hole was at MacKenzie Park in Lubbock, Texas. It has to be the worst basket location I've ever seen. It's very possible to throw a shot from the tee box and end up 5 feet from the basket with no chance to make your next shot. Not cool.

Here are the scores for the disc golf tournament I played.

I urge Congress to "act quickly" and view these scores "immediately".

As you can see, my 80 was really, really bad and my 61 was pretty good.

80 and 61

So, I participated in my first disc golf tournament today. I had a really, really bad first round. I shot a 78 plus I added my score wrongly and got a 2 shot penalty. So, my first round was an 80, one of the worst rounds by anybody in my division.

I think I played so badly the first round for these reasons:
  1. I wasn't warmed up.
  2. I was nervous/intimidated
  3. I hadn't played or even seen half the holes we played.
My second round I shot a 61. I had a bunch of pars and either two or three birdies. 61 was a better number than any person I played with posted (7 different people). I'll be able to see how good of a round the 61 was when the full results are posted here.

Also, in this previous post, it might have appeared to some that I was talking a lot of trash before the tournament. That's not right. As with everything I do, you have to read between the lines. That post was really me just wishing everybody well and me hoping that I enjoyed the tournament and learned some things. I did.

Algorithm For Making a List of the Dammed

Here are the steps:
  1. Go to this link.
  2. Scroll down to the "Recreational" section.
  3. Remove the name "Greg Lange" from the names you find there.
  4. The remaining names make up the list.
Some may think I've misspelled the word "dammed" in the title of this post. I did not. These people are "dammed" because there is a huge obstacle in the way of their desire for success. Imagine a Hoover Dam sized and shaped structure on the disc golf course in Boerne. Now, imagine that structure is good at disc golf. Only now do you understand what I mean.

Faked Data

This blog has always striven to uphold the highest standards of truthiness. However, in light of the recent flap over climate change data, I feel I must come clean. This disc golf scorecard that I uploaded 2008-10-11 is partially faked:

mcclain.20081011

The scores of Cory, Nels, Ken Climo, and Obama were fabricated. Everything else on the scorecard is true. I apologize for the deception. (Satan really did shoot a 51. He was on fire!)

"The Game" Goes to Boerne

We played disc golf in Boerne today at a course we've never played before. It was a lot of fun. The course was only nine holes. However, it was really nice and we were the only ones on it. We went up there because of the rain. McClain doesn't drain well. The course in Boerne drained well enough to be playable today.

Results From "The Game"

mcclain.20091114

I broke 60 for the second time. Chris almost had a 59 too but he blew up on the last hole. He still had a great round.
